Children word process their address discussing the meaning of each line

Survey how the children come to school and display as a pictogram

2. Where is the school? How do I get to school?

Use Infomapper to display a map and ariel photograph of the school and surrounding area

Paste map into Textease and allow children to animate their route to school

Children use Pixie/Bee Bots to simulate journeys and describe routes

3: What can we see in the streets around our school?
to recognise some of the physical and human features in their locality to understand some of the ways in which the features are used

Use digital cameras to record some of the physical and human features in the locality. Link to what they can see on the map

Use SMART Notebook and scanned drawings of features and use to support children describing routes

4: What are our immediate surroundings like?
to describe the features of the local environment to express views on the features that changes occur in the locality

Complete a questionnaire on different features and display results as a pictogram, graph or poster

Take digital photos of attractive and unattractive places and get children to sort into 'nice' and 'nasty'

5: What jobs do people do in our locality?
to identify some of the uses of land and buildings in their locality to understand that these uses are linked to the work people do

Photograph people doing their jobs in the locality. Write captions for photographs using the computer
