ICT Applications in Literacy

On these pages are some examples of ICT based activities and tasks, taken from the Primary Frameworks, that will support children's learning for each stage. The examples given are offered as prompts for you to draw from and embed in your planning for literacy. In order to use these prompts successfully you will need to apply effective 'assessment for learning' to ensure the tasks you plan support the children's stage of development and learning.

Links to the Wiltshire Scheme of Work

This page shows where links exist between the Wiltshire Scheme of Work for ICT and the Primary Framework for Literacy. Successful planning for ICT centres around us as teacher being clear what it is we want our pupils to learn, the resources to be used and an appropriate link being made to the curriculum.  The ICT resources available within the school will largely determine the approach to planning. Therefore, the volume and range of activities will be different for each setting. As a principle however, planning needs to reflect the ICT capability to be learned, how this will be developed over a period of lessons and how this activity can be linked to the curriculum.

Literacy Resources

This page provides links to a range of interactive resources to support  pupils in improving their literacy skills and for teachers seeking literacy resources to use on an interactive whiteboard or computers. Theses activities primarily support the learning of literacy specific objectives and teachers are reminded of the need to provide opportunities for children to develop ICT capability using ideas from either of the links above.
